LOTZ ACCEPTANCE REMARKS ON ELECTION AS BEAUFORT COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR

On behalf of my fellow elected officers and myself, I want to thank all of you for your confidence.  I'm proud of the team you have assembled:  Marissa Sherard, Allan Yard, Pat Goodman, and Jimmy Mackey.  Working together with the local Democratic Clubs we expect to do great things.  There are big shoes to fill of those who have gone before us.  Jane Frederick, Fred Kuhn, Flo Rosse, and others. Our retiring chair, Beverly Dore has been a selfless worker on behalf of all Beaufort Countians, not just Democrats.  No one has worked harder or more diligently than Beverly.  We want to maintain her unbridled enthusiasm focused on the efforts of our Democratic Party.  Thank-you, Beverly, for everything you have done. Now, I want to say a few words about my fellow vice-chair Edgar Williams.  Edgar has accomplished remarkable work in these last four years as vice-chair of our Beaufort County Party.  He is a unifier and a tireless organizer in our community.  But, most importantly, he is my friend.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me say a few words about the coming campaign and 2010 elections:

We need a state government that works, one that will give us a cigarette tax that is more than just the lowest in the nation so that we can fund programs to help people, a state government that demands more than minimally adequate education so that we can prepare our young people for the challenges ahead, a state that has leaders who are not the butt of late night comedians --- a governor in mid-life crisis not-hiking the Appalachian Trail, a lieutenant governor disparaging the poor, a US Senator who calls for our President to fail, and our own Congressman who screams You Lie at our President.  We have individuals, like the ones on this platform, who will put an end to these jokes.  They are quality candidates who will help put people to work, who care about educating our children, who want to give us all the quality health-care that a great nation and great state deserve, but also, who will restore dignity to the offices they hold so that they can lead our citizens and make them proud once again of our state of South Carolina.  We need you working at the grass-roots level to make all of this happen.  So, for our seniors, for our children, for those less fortunate than many of us, let's show the rest of the country that South Carolina is a lot more than a comedian's jokes.  Let's be a united Party and elect Democrats in 2010.
